The Drug of Media and Why It’s Destroying You

By Michael Snyder – End of The America Dream Blog June 30, 2016

Did you know that the average U.S. adult consumes 10 hours and 39 minutes of media a day? Nielsen has just released brand new numbers on the media consumption patterns of Americans, and they are absolutely staggering.

According to Nielsen, the amount of media that we consume per day has increased by an hour just since the first quarter of 2015.

This is the time of the year when we celebrate our independence, but how in the world can we ever be truly independent when most of us are willingly plugging ourselves into “the Matrix” for more than 10 hours a day?
If you feed anything into your mind for hours every day, it is going to change the way that you think, the way that you feel about things, and the way that you view the world.
This endless barrage of “news” and “entertainment” has fundamentally altered the belief systems of tens of millions of Americans, and this has very serious implications for our society moving forward.
According to the Merriam-Webster dictionary, brainwashing is “a forcible indoctrination to induce someone to give up basic political, social, or religious beliefs and attitudes and to accept contrasting regimented ideas”.  But nobody is forcing us to plug into “the Matrix” every day.
Instead, this is something that we are willingly doing to ourselves.  In fact, Nielsen says that Americans are doing it more than ever before…
If you feel like you’re spending more time than ever before watching and streaming content, you’re right.
U.S. adults spent 10 hours, 39 minutes a day consuming media in the first quarter of 2016. That’s up a full hour from the first quarter of 2015, and it’s thanks to a substantial increase in smartphone and tablet usage, according to Nielsen’s Q1 2016 Total Audience Report.
Here is how the 10 hours and 39 minutes breaks down by type of device…
Live TV: 4 hours, 31 minutes
Time-Shifted TV: 33 minutes
Radio: 1 hour, 52 minutes
DVDs: 8 minutes
Video Game Consoles: 14 minutes
Multimedia Devices (Apple TV, Roku, etc.): 13 minutes
Internet on PC: 58 minutes
Smartphone: 1 hour, 39 minutes
Tablet: 31 minutes
These days, there is a lot of talk about various “agendas” that are being advanced in our country.
Well, just about whatever “agenda” you want to talk about, the main way it is being advanced is through these devices.  Our televisions, our radios, our DVD players and even our computers are constantly telling us what to think, and this has resulted in a population of brainwashed “sheeple” that is more closely resembling a horde of mindless zombies with each passing year.
Who do you think controls the vast majority of the “news” and “entertainment” that we consume?  As I wrote about just recently, more than 90 percent of what we get through our televisions is controlled by just six giant media corporations, and in turn they are controlled by the elite of the world.
Do you really want the elite telling you what to think?
And the Internet has become highly controlled as well.  Fortunately there are still many independent websites such as this one where you can hear an alternative point of view, but increasingly web traffic is coming to be dominated by just a handful of giant companies.
This is of great concern when it comes to our young people, because they are spending an enormous amount of time on the Internet…
The majority of Americans – 73 percent – indicated that they go online on a daily basis, and many go on several times per day.
A Pew Research Center survey collected data from internet users between June and July 2015, and confirmed that Americans are constantly logging in.
Young people are the most connected; the study found that 36 percent of people ages 18 to 29 are online almost constantly, and 50 per cent go on several times per day.
It has been estimated that there are 54,907 Google searches, 7,252 tweets written, 125,406 YouTube videos viewed and 2,501,018 emails sent out every second.

So what is all of this “information” doing to us?

Dr Lee Hadlington of De Montford University Leicester has made some troubling discoveries regarding this excessive Internet use…
He found the more times a person used the internet or a mobile phone the more likely they were to experience ‘cognitive failures’.
These failures included not turning up to appointments, having trouble paying attention while in conversation and forgetting why they went to one part of the house to another.
‘This is a very under-examined area and a very important one. We are using technology on a daily basis but we don’t understand its effect on us,’ said Dr Hadlington.
Of much greater importance is what this endless barrage of information is doing to our belief systems.  We are willingly enslaving ourselves to a “matrix” that is deeply anti-Christian, and it was inevitable that this would result in the decaying of the Christian foundations of the western world.
The following is an excerpt from an absolutely outstanding article that was just published by Jonathon Van Maren…
And yet, the Judeo-Christian foundations of the West that brought such success and such prosperity have either been removed or are in the final stages of demolition.
The sanctity of life is gone, but most of us have not noticed simply because we do not toss the corpses of the murdered out the front door into the street, but quietly deposit them in dumpsters behind clinics or vaporize them in modern, up-to-date incinerators.
New ideologies have taken over our legal systems, and the short march to labeling Holy Scripture as Hate Speech has already begun. The number of citizens who still attend church or are even aware that Christianity was the life-blood of our civilization is plummeting.
Things may be peaceful for the moment, but the dark clouds in the distance bulge with thunder and the rumblings have already begun: Christian universities are told they are ineligible to start a law school because they believe what Christians have always believed, Christian medical professionals are told they will be forced to refer patients for killing, and Christian professionals are subjected to “formal investigations” at the slightest hint that they have violated the new secular religion.
This is just the calm before the storm, but because Christians are so distracted with the high drama of ordinary day-to-day life, they may not hear the rumblings until thunder splits the sky.
As I warn in my new book, America is really starting to feel the consequences of decades of walking away from the Christian faith.
But how are we going to turn this around?
Many of the exact same people that are expressing dismay over all of this are the exact same people that turn their televisions on as soon as they get home and don’t turn them off until they go to sleep at night.
As long as we all remain willingly plugged into “the Matrix”, we are fighting a losing battle, and that is just the way that it is.

We Must Seek God

“If we would be saved, we must seek God (Hebrews 11:6).  When we do this duty aright, we seek to know him, to secure his favor, to be like him, to serve and obey him, to commune with him and to attain unto eternal life in his presence.  Men must seek God intelligently, not superstitiously; diligently, not carelessly; humbly, not with self-sufficiency; heartily, not hypocritically; relying solely on the merits of the Redeemer.  Owen: ‘That faith is vain, which doth not put men on a diligent inquiry after God.’ ”  — William S. Plumer “Hebrews” p. 456-457

Watchmen…Do Your Job!

Ezekiel 3
“Son of man, I have made you a watchman for the house of Israel; therefore hear a word from My mouth, and give them warning from Me:
18 When I say to the wicked, ‘You shall surely die,’ and you give him no warning, nor speak to warn the wicked from his wicked way, to save his life, that same wicked man shall die in his iniquity; but his blood I will require at your hand.
We must, as God’s witnesses, warn the fallen world of their sin and the impending judgment of God. We must strive to help him turn from his wickedness, for if he dies in his sin and wasn’t warned, we will be held accountable.
19 Yet, if you warn the wicked, and he does not turn from his wickedness, nor from his wicked way, he shall die in his iniquity; but you have delivered your soul.
If you warn the wicked and plead with him to turn from his wickedness, yet he does not, he will die, but you will not be held accountable. You have done your job.
20 Again, when a righteous man turns from his righteousness and commits iniquity, and I lay a stumbling block before him, he shall die; because you did not give him warning, he shall die in his sin, and his righteousness which he has done shall not be remembered; but his blood I will require at your hand.
Also, if a righteous man turns away from his righteousness, and goes after wickedness, and God destroys him, but you have not warned him to turn back, he will die and you will be held accountable.
21 Nevertheless if you warn the righteous man that the righteous should not sin, and he does not sin, he shall surely live because he took warning; also you will have delivered your soul.”
If the righteous man listens and turns away from his sin and heeds your warning, he will live and you will be justified in your warnings.
We, as Christians, true Christians, are watchmen, set up by God to warn the world and the church of God’s ever-present judgment. It is our job, everyone of us, to look after each other, and to proclaim the Gospel (the bad news along with the good news) to a fallen and damned world. It is our heaven sent responsibility to warn of God’s coming judgment.
Yes, they will most likely laugh you to scorn. Perhaps they will persecute you, or even kill you. But you have done your job. It is not your problem, who listens and who doesn’t. Just preach the message. Just be accountable for sowing the seeds of the Gospel and for keeping your fellow brothers and sisters accountable.
If fallen man turns from his sin and repents, all the better. If he doesn’t then he will be destroyed. If you were faithful, then you will be justified, and God will be glorified.

Really and Truly Justified

Romans 5:1 Therefore having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.

“…it is because we have been justified, says the Apostle–really and truly justified–out of faith, that we have this peace with God which we feel in our quieted souls, and exult in this hope of the glory of God in which we are now rejoicing.  Not only the case of Abraham [Romans 4], but their own experience as well, will teach them then that it is out of faith and not out of works that God justifies the sinner.”

“The peace that steals into the heart of him who rests upon this Savior in faith, and the joy that exults upon his lips as he contemplates standing in him before the judgment-seat of God, are but the proper emotions of the satisfied conscience, and as such are the proof to us that God’s wrath is really appeased, his condemnation reversed, and his face turned upon us in loving acceptance in his beloved Son.  Lastly, then, his experience of peace and joy is an irrefutable proof that this and no other is the just God’s method of justifying the sinner.”  –Benjamin B. Warfield “Selected Shorter Writings” Vol. 2, “Paul’s Argument from Experience” p. 144, 151

The Christian and Prosperity

unnamed (16)

The Christian far oftener disgraces his profession in prosperity than in adversity.

Men may be drowned in seas of prosperity as well as in rivers of affliction.

~Charles Spurgeon

Many times, what seems to be blessing in a man’s life, ends up being a curse. Prosperity, often tends to be sent as judgment upon the false-convert, because he has turned his back on God and replaced Him with self.

Deliverance Will Come

praising-despite

It often happens that our state is so perplexed, and our affairs so entangled, that we need not merely a deliverance, but deliverances; not merely salvation, but salvations.  All this is graciously promised.

When God commands deliverance, it shall surely come.  ‘Where the word of the king is, there is power.’  He made the world by his word.  He commanded and it stood fast.  Nothing costs God labor.  He has all power, all causes, all means, all agents, all results under his control.

God helping us, we can do anything, overcome any enemies, resist any assaults, vanquish any legions; for it is God that breaks the shield, the sword and the battle.  Every genuine child of God achieves victories more worthy of celebration than that of David over the lion, the bear and the giant.”

God’s Means

“Means must be used but not relied on (Ps. 44:6).  Not to use them is to despise God’s ordinance, but to trust in them is to despise God himself.  Man must sow and water; God gives the increase.  Man is to bend his bow and sharpen his sword in the day of battle, and use both with his utmost skill; and then trust God as if he were unarmed.”  –William S. Plumer “Studies in the Book of Psalms” p. 511 (Banner of Truth).

The Golden Opportunities of Interruptions

GE DIGITAL CAMERA

“Again and again during his earthly ministry Jesus was interrupted; namely, in his speaking to a crowd, conversing with his disciples, traveling, sleeping, and praying  The fact that none of these intrusions floor him, so that for the moment he would be at a loss what to do or what to say, shows that we are dealing here with the Son of man who is also the Son of God!  What we would call an ‘interruption’ is for him a springboard or take-off point for the utterance of a great saying, or for the performance of a marvelous deed, revealing his power, wisdom, and love.  What for us would have been a painful exigency is to him a golden opportunity.”  –William Hendricksen “Matthew” (Banner of Truth) p. 431
